Fred Thompson
Fred Thompson has withdrawn his candidacy for President of the United States.
Before withdrawing from the Republican presidential race in January, “The Gipper II” was hoping to follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan as an actor to make it to the Oval Office.
Thompson, who starred in the TV series Law and Order, is a former US Senator for Tennessee and had climbed to second place in national polls last October before a poor showing in the early voting rounds.
He retired from the Senate in 2002, shortly before marrying his second wife Jeri, 24 years his junior. Well known for playing the field in the 1990s after his first marriage broke up, he once said, “I was single for a long time and, yep, I chased a lot of women. And a lot of women chased me. And those who chased me tended to catch me.”
Thompson still had a lot of female supporters in his quest to become US president. But regrettably for him, the US electorate is not exclusively female and the ‘gold rush’ had long finished.
