2008 US Election

Mike Bloomberg

Mike Bloomberg has repeatedly denied he has any plans to stand in the 2008 presidential election – and yet a lot of smart money is being wagered on him entering the running.

The Mayor of New York City and multi-billionaire businessman switched his political allegiance from Republican to independent in 2007, leading many commentators to believe he is planning to stand.

Bloomberg has a groundswell of media and public opinion behind him – as well as an estimated $11 billion fortune that could fund the most expensive presidential campaign in history. If he does eventually stand, experts predict he could take valuable votes away from the Democratic candidate and seriously damage their chances of victory.

Despite Bloomberg not having entered the contest yet, bookmaker William Hill thinks he is more likely to enter the White House than official Republicans Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul and makes him a 33/1 shot for the presidency.
