Apple Pies the Acid Test for Obama
July 29th, 2008 by Nigel AplinAs we head towards the Convention season, who do we think is in the best position to bask in the shade of reflected adulation?
Clearly Barrack Obama, after a hugely successful whistle stop tour of Europe, has much to be content with. The new generation of Europeans just loved him, at last an American who they could take to their hearts. But when have homespun Americans ever embraced the European dream?
Lurking in the recesses of Barrack’s deepest and blackest conscious must be the overriding fear that Americans may not be as ‘Apple Pie’ truthful as they would like us to believe. A ‘yes’ to Barrack in the polls may become a ‘no’ in the seclusion of the voting booths.
Let us not forget how close they ran JFK, victor with a ‘ few stolen votes in Cook County.’ In the sixties, covert racism was expressed in religious differences. Kennedy was Roman Catholic and perceived to be the popular choice in all projected polls. In the event, Kennedy squeaked in with the help of some ex pats from Palermo.
Barrack will not be taking the odds until the last vote is counted.
